We will start class with a 10 minute silent type. We are preparing for our typing tournament which will take place next week (round 1)
Following the silent type, we will look at the "A is for attitude" post on Kidblog and read through it, discussing the format students need to use for their own post. Students will have the rest of class to begin thinking about their post.

This week we will use the Snipping tool and MS Word to build screen shot instructions of how to SAVE AS.
Rationale - we are getting so used to cloud computing that we are having trouble navigating the filing system on our own computers. Even though cloud computing is becoming more and more dominant, we still need to save files to physical locations sometimes.

2. Continue to improve keyboarding skills
During Day 1 this week our class will identify important keyboard shortcuts including:
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+P, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+S and Ctrl+A
Students will reproduce a document that details the purpose of these shortcuts in preparation for a quiz over shortcuts that we will take next week.
Day 2 this week will include drills from typing.com as well as time to work on our keyboard shortcuts document.

2. To continue working on MS Paint project
Students will spend the first ten minutes of class one and the first 10 minutes of class two on typing.com continuing to work on their keyboarding skills. From this point onward, the first 10 minutes of each class will be timed work on typing.com. The rationale for this is that we need to see progress in keyboarding proficiency without looking at hands.
During class two, the students will use strategies to help them type without looking. The first strategy we will use is "weaning." Students will try to type in chunks of three to five letters without looking for each character.
EEK! We only had 1 class day last week in elementary computers so I am not making any changes to the lesson plan. We will make sure our Word Houses are done and turned in and begin learning about MS Paint.
Student Objectives this week:
1. To complete a one-minute typing test
2. To complete their MS Word house and turn it in
3. View the tutorial videos about creating landscapes (1,2,3) that are embedded below
4. Begin to copy tutotial videos to create their own landscape
Students - please complete the above in order! Prior to your one-minute test, plese do some keyboarding drills at typing.com. Once your one-minute test is completed, please make sure your MS Word house is done and turned in to the word house folder on the network. When that is done, please view the video below and begin working in MS paint to copy the picture.

This week we have two main goals:
1. Evaluate our keyboarding progress with a one minute typing test
2. Practice drawing pictures using shapes in MS word (house drawing)
Day 1 - students will spend 10 minutes in silent typing practice on typing.com and then will be given the house drawing assignment (Mrs. Taylor will demonstrate how to do this in class)
Day 2- students will take a one minute timed test and will finish drawing their Word houses.
Tasks this week
1. Students will write a Kidblog called "My Christmas Wish for You." In it, they will compose a short message (2-4 sentences) that they would like to share with the world about why Christmas matters and then they will explain why they wrote this message.
2. Students will comment on at least 3 blogs in their class.
3. Typing practice this week will be for students to type the words to "Go Tell it on the Mountain," "Silent Night" and "In the Bleak Midwinter." These will be set up like poems for them to type but will do double duty helping us learn our words for the Christmas concert, too!
NO TYPING.COM this week! Christmas songs will be typed as many times as possible with extra credit available for typing them more than once.
1. To determine a true count of WPM on typing.com by completing a typing test WITHOUT looking at their fingers at all.
2. To learn how to determine if something is TRUE (the first letter in our acronym for posting things online) and to complete a kidblog about the importance of determining whether or not something is true.
Day 1 - students will practice for one minute test and we will discuss how to evaluate whether or not something found online is "true." Students will have access to their kidblog to begin the discussion about this topic.
Day 2 - students can continue working on kidblog about truth online. At some point during the class they will take a one minute timed test without looking at fingers to determine a real baseline of WPM.
